More on features of mixed ships
Inland waterway crafts and mixed ships have a number of design features. Here, particular hull strength peculiar to sea-going ships combines with a shallow draft and special form of ship tips peculiar to river crafts.
Current situation of the Russian inland navigation fleet filled observers with misgivings in the last years. The matter is that the majority of inland waterway ships was constructed more than 20 years ago. The Federal Target Programme for the Development of the transport infrastructure of the Russian Federation in 2010-2015 is to change the situation through construction of new 90 ships.
As for mixed (river-sea-going) ships, the situation is better.` Even under conditions of the general decline in the trade due to the crisis, the demand for them has not declined, and in some sectors, it has grown. The matter is that such ships can sail without transshipment between Russian river ports as well as European ports.
The ship construction relies heavily on its operation conditions which are to be taken into account on the stage of designing and constructing inland waterway vessels and mixed (sea-river-going) ships.
