Ship repair facilities

As part of the shipbuilding industry, ship-repair depends on the shipbuilding to a large extent. Faultfinding and renovation operations are often performed at the same enterprises as construction of ships and fabrication of separate units. One of the modern classes of enterprises in the industry is a shipbuilding and ship-repair plant. In return, some ship-repair plants master shipbuilding operations.

In the time of the USSR, there were 31 large ship-repair enterprises on the territory of the country, 15 of which operate at this day. All of them are located near river and sea water areas which is defined by the character of activities and logistics requirements.

The main classes of ship-repair enterprises are:

• ship-repair, shipbuilding and ship-repair, ship-repair and mechanical plants;
• ship-repair workshops;
• repair-operational fleet bases, fleet maintenance bases.

Currently in Russia, the shipbuilding together with ship-repair industry experiences the period of restructuring. The ways of more effective operation of business are being sought, and the United Shipbuilding Corporation under state management has been organized. The fact that the government pays attention to the industry development and its problems and undertakes dynamic actions is a positive point.
