More on ship electric equipment

Ship electrical facilities is a complex of instruments and devices for energy conversion and transmission. This complex is formed by transformers, transducers, terminal boxes, various cables, wires, electromechanical, electrical and electronic control, monitoring and protective instruments, regulators, lighting and heating devices, etc. All safety requirements are stipulated by GOST R 51683-2000.

AC or DC generators as well as accumulators are used as onboard power systems. Generators could be:

  • diesel;
  • shaft-driven;
  • turbo (with steam turbines).

Ship transformers (potential, current, isolating and mains) and high-frequency transducers are responsible for conversion of electrical energy.

And, electricity distribution plants are used for electrical circuit control, their status check, disconnection and connection, etc. They can be general distribution board, other distribution and control boards, control panels and special-purpose devices.

LEDs are finding ever-widening onboard application. Today, they are used in manufacture of navigation lights.
