Sea and river ports

In Sea and River Ports section, you can find detailed information on Forum participants engaged in activities related to ports and port installations, facilities and equipment as well as information on ports. Also, there are news, news stories and a brief overview of the port infrastructure. For receiving information, select necessary subsection.

The first ports emerged synchronous with the beginning of the shipbuilding and navigation. At first, they emerged only in navigable bays, creeks, river mouths, on the shores protected by islands, etc. With raise in amount of cargo transported via water, the need for new ports construction appeared. Technological expansion permitted to construct ports where there is no natural protection from commotion and the water is not sufficiently deep. So, port facilities grew more complex and developed. Today, they are huge complex systems of constructions, devices and mechanisms.

Currently in Russia, there are over 50 large sea ports at 9 seas and the Pacific Ocean. Besides, there are about 150 river ports at large navigable rivers playing a key role in functioning of the transport infrastructure of the country.
