There were times when a log of wood and a hammer were sufficient for constructing a vessel. Modern ships are a huge complex of systems and machinery. Despite the fact that each shipbuilding plant is surrounded by a great number of support facilities, ship components and materials are delivered from around the world. By no means all yards work directly with their manufacturers. And the plants do not find convenient cooperation with retail purchasers. So, there is a demand for merchants, mediators, distributors and representatives.

Currently in Russia, there are thousands of commercial enterprises delivering ship and port equipment, rig, separate systems or their parts, and so on. Some of them are designated for civil or private shipbuilding, others – for industrial scale defense production. Some companies twisted fortune with specific manufacturers and promote a single brand. Others represent variety of products from around the world. Anyhow, they work to deliver the products manufactured by some companies to those who wants for it.
