More on manufacturing enterprises in the marine industry
The shipbuilding is a high-tech and resource-intensive industry consolidating fruits of other large industries. Construction of a ship is impossible without metallurgic production, huge package of instruments and appliances, life support systems and rig. When a location of each type of enterprises is defined, one of the main factors will be the geographical proximity and transport accessibility of associate manufacturing enterprises.
There are over 160 enterprises in the Russian shipbuilding. These are shipbuilding facilities and dockyards, small enterprises and huge complexes, ship-repair facilities which have started new activities, plants producing separate units and parts, and so on.
However the range of manufacturing enterprises operating in the marine industry is not limited to the shipbuilding. There are many plants of other profile, which manufacture even aids and appliances for navigation, fishery, shelf oil production and so on. All of them partly depend on shipbuilding enterprises and the latter, in turn, depend from the former.
