On May 27, 2010, in Lappeenranta (Finland), FGUP Rosmorport and OAO Sovkomflot signed a memorandum of collaboration with Finnish companies STX Finland Oy, Aker Arctic Technology Inc. and Southeast Trading Oy.
The scope of the memorandum comprises collaboration of Russian and Finnish companies in designing and constructing a revolutionary new generation salving icebreaker to clean up oil spills in the Gulf of Finland including ice conditions. Such vessels are supposed to carry out other operations, e.g. rescue of people, tow and convoy of transport ships and special-purpose water crafts, icebreaker assistance, etc.
Project ARC 100 of Aker Arctic Technology is used as a basic design featuring asymmetric hull ensuring lateral motion in ice conditions during cleaning up oil spills. According to Maritime Bulletin, with 67 m length and 19 m beam the icebreaker is to be equipped with three steerable propellers and will be capable of breaking the way of up to 50 meter width.
