Innovative Heavy-Duty Carrier

On March 25, 2010, the naming ceremony of a special-purpose vessel for heavy and outsize cargoes transportation took place. The vessel is constructed by order of NYK-Hinode Line Ltd, affiliated of NYK Group. The heavy-duty carrier was given a name of Yamatai.
The place of construction is Koyagi shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki.
The vessel is to be used for transportation of finished modules to be installed at oil and gas fields and of industrial structures. It is to transport one unit of cargo of about 100 tons. There are horizontal loading ramps to load heavy structures.
Yamatai is equipped with an innovative air-lubrication system supplying air to the ship bottom with bubbles mitigating friction of ship bottom and water. The system is expected to lower carbon dioxide burst by 10%.

- Overall length: 162 m
- Beam: 38 m
- Draught: 6.344 m
- GRT: 14538 ths tons
- DWT: 19.5 ths tons
