International Maritime Organization (IMO) Approved OptiMarine Ballast System

November 25, 2009

On behalf of Norwegian Maritime Administration, Det Norske Veritas issued the Type Approval Certificate for the ballast system from OptiMarin AS. This certificate confirms the system’s compliance with the requirements of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ship’s Ballast Water and Sediments adopted by the International Maritime Organization in 2004.

OptiMarin ballast system is a mechanical filtering system which does not have chemical, electrochemical or biochemical effect on the environment. The system also does not affect the operation of other shipboard facilities. It is noiseless and easy in installation on the vessels under construction or on those already in operation, and features small dimensions and low weight.
