Meteorological Buoys for Black Sea Survey

November 19, 2009

By 2009, Ukraine joined the ranks of investors of the Black Sea Surface Meteorological Data Collection programme.

By November’s end, Sebastopol’s Marine Hydrophysical Institute is intended to launch two active meteorological buoys. The units manufactured in collaboration of USA and Ukraine specialists consist of a float and a cylindrical undersea sail. The measuring equipment is located inside the float as well as the satellite communication system making it possible to control the buoy from shore. The buoy can reach 80 meters depth. There are about 6 thousand of similar units in the World Ocean and 98 in the Black Sea.
