TransContainer Carried Out the First Experimental Flexitank Shipment

OAO TransContainer (affiliate of OAO RZD) carried out the first experimental flexitank shipment of bulk nonhazardous cargo within the territory of Russia. The cargo (lingo sulphonate, pulp and paper waste products) will be transported in this special packing from station Nizovka of the Northern Railroad to receiving station Chernikovka of the Kuybyshev Railroad. According to the press-service of TransContainer, the shipment made possible due to series of successful tests of flexitanks fabricated by the company in end-2009-beginning-2010. The shipment is carried by means of containers and railway cars of the company.

A flexitank is a flexible polymeric tank of up to 24 ths liters designated for transportation of liquid cargoes in a 20-feet container. When using a flexitank, no additional equipment or special skills are necessary. A flexitank is installed into a 20-feet standard container within 30 minutes. After that, products are filled into it by means of any pump. Depending on product density, maximum volume amounts to 24 ths liters. Flexitank weight with fasteners is only 140 kg which is 0.7% of the weight of the product being transported.
