In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, there are design bureaus and enterprises capable of designing and constructing high-speed lake-, river- and sea-going vessels. The range of vessels produced in the region comprises hydrofoil, air-cushion and air-cavity vessels as well as airfoil crafts.
From the early 1960’s in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a series of passenger hydrofoil motor ships designed by local draftsman Rostislav Alekseev. The series comprises high-speed vessels Raketa, Meteor, Kometa and Sputnik. In the late 1980’s, the production was phased-out and now these vessels are hardly operated at Volga and Oka rivers.
“In 1960-1970’s, the Nizhny Novgorod Region was the leader in the area of construction of high-speed vessels. The Association “Innovative Center for High-Speed Fleet” will help to restore lost reputation,” said Nikolay Sataev, Minister of Industry and Innovations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
