The Russian International Ship Registry Needs to be Improved - Igor Levitin

The Russian International Ship Registry in its current state needs to be improved in the context of raising its force of attraction for ship-owners as compared to foreign nations. According to PortNews referring to the information from the press-service of Mintrans of Russia, Igor Levitin, Minister of Transport announced it at the enlarged session of the collegium of the Ministry of Transport.

According to him, in this regard, the Ministry has prepared quotations on support to the Russian shipping and shipbuilding industry in the form of a separate law in draft.

The Minister said that last year the marine fleet increased by 24 new ships with total DWT of about 2 mln. tons. There observed growth of both number and tonnage of sea-going ships registered in the Russian Federation. And the Russian International Ship Registry played a special role in this process.
