Shipbuilding industry of the Astrakhan Region has grown stronger

March 09, 2010

On March, 2, 2010, on the territory of the factory owned by “Galaktika” group of companies, took place the solemn Keel Laying Ceremony of three ships. The event was attended by the representatives of the Government of the Astrakhan Region, city administration and Register of Vessels. Today’s event means for the ship repair facility of “Galaktika” group the obtaining of the new status – a status of a ship repair facility, increased competitiveness, and more stable positions at the international market due to the new opportunities of receiving orders, first of all, from Caspian states.

The ordering customer for the ships (three specialized engineering and survey ships, so-called “cable-laying vehicles”) is Petroleum Geo-Service-Hazar (PGS-Hazar), a Norwegian and Russian company. According to information portal “Shipbuilding. Energy. Transport”, The ships are to be operated in surveying Turkmen sector of the shelve of the Caspian sea.

Order allocation at the yards of “Galaktika” was possible thanks to the presentation performed by the delegation from the Astrakhan Region headed by Governor Alexander Zhilkin in Turkmenistan in 2007. Subsequently, the relations with this state have become stronger. The relations have become so strong, that during the first half of the current year, an official visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to our region has been scheduled.

General Director of “Galaktika” company, Rakhman Sharifov noted in his speech at the Ceremony: “We have wanted to start shipbuilding for a long time. This order was a long-awaited one. Thanks to the support of the administration of the region and, personally, Alexander Zhilkin, a new stage in the life of our factory has begun. This means the inflow of additional tax revenues to the budgets of all levels. New workplaces have been created. In total, about 150 specialists will be working on this order. If the customer likes the quality of our work, then our cooperation is likely to continue. Then we will be able to speak of building three more similar ships.”
