International Tender for Helicopter Carrier Ship Construction

The Russian Ministry of Defense renounced the idea of purchasing Mistral (France) and will consider proposals regarding its analogues.

According to Roman Trotsenko, head of OSK, a special commission will be organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to prepare for the tender.

Both foreign and Russian shipyards will be allowed to participate the tender. The commission is to specify their list, selection criteria, terms and conditions of the tender. An informant in the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the helicopter carrier ship will be purchased through the tender. Otherwise, ship purchase operation will be considered illegal.

Three shipyards, affiliates of OSK, are going to participate in the tender: Zvezda Far Eastern Shipyard, Admiralteyskie Verfi (Saint-Petersburg) and Yantar (Kaliningrad). Zvezda and Daewoo Marine Shipbuilding & Engineering, South Korea, have already established a joint venture and for the tender they will offer Dokdo – Korean helicopter carrier ship.

According to Roman Trotsenko, OSK shipyards are ready to build a ship within 30 months, no matter which project wins. The project cost (except for air group and landing crafts) is to amount USD 500–700 mln.
