A Meeting in the Primorie Territory

April 28, 2010

On April 26, 2010, at a meeting headed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Khristenko held at closed administrative-territorial formation Bolshoy Kamen (southern coast of the Primorie Territory), the programme of activities of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Center (DCSS), affiliate of OAO United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK), was introduced.

In the Primorie Territory, two shipbuilding yards for superships used at oil-and-gas shelves will be erected. One shipyard will emerge in Bolshoy Kamen on the base of Shiprepair Plant Zvezda. South-Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) will participate in its construction. At the shipyard to be commissioned in the end of 2011, ice-class ships to be operated on shelf will be constructed, such as LNG-carriers, tankers, and floating LNG plants. The second shipyard will be constructed not far from Bolshoy Kamen – in the Chazhma Bay (village Dunay, ZATO Fokino). Here offshore drilling rigs and hydrocarbon production platforms are planned to be constructed. This enterprise will emerge on the base of 30th shiprepair plant of the Ministry of Defense jointly with Yantai Raffles Shipyard Limited (Singapore-China). “Construction of superships which are currently are not built in Russia due to lack of facilities will help to create new jobs and stop relying on foreign suppliers,” was pointed out during the meeting.

The problem typical for Far East as a whole consists in lack of qualified shipbuilders. In order to solve the problem, a special engineering center was opened in Vladivostok. In addition to it, the Governor of the Primorie Territory Sergey Darkin gave a promise to open dedicated faculties to train engineers and draftsmen in the Far-Eastern Federal University being built on island Russki. Following the meeting results, Viktor Khristenko ordered to hasten a process of solving all existing organizational problems.
