Modernization of the Black Sea Fleet becomes perceptible

On June 23, the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy Vladimir Vysotsky announced that in the next 10 years the Black Sea Fleet of Russia is to receive 15 new ships. These are frigates of 22350 project and submarines of project 677 “Lada”.

Diesel-electrical submarines of project 677 “Lada” are of 1765 ton DWT, 67 m length and 7.1 m beam. The subsurface running maximum speed is 21 knots, that of supermarine one is 10 knots. The cruising radius is 650 miles and sea endurance is 45 days. The maximum depth of submergence is 300 meters.

The lead ship, Saint-Petersburg, is currently undergoing trials. Two other vessels – Kronstadt and Sevastopol – are under construction at Admiralteyskie Verfi.

The frigate of project 22350 is be of 4.5 thousand ton DWT and 4 thousand mile cruising radius. The basic weapon is 8 anitsurface winged rockets 3M55 Oniks, new 130 mm gun mount A-192, anitsubmarine rocket weapon system Medvedka-2, and antiaircraft mean range missile system Uragan. The vessel is to base a Ka-32 helicopter.

The lead ship of the project is the frigate Admiral Gorshkov laid down on February 1, 2006, at Severnaya Verf, Saint-Petersburg. The vessel is to swing into line in 2011.
