The beginning the reconstruction of a moorage and marine passenger terminal in Murmansk scheduled by the regional government for 2008 and postponed due to the crisis for 2010 is deferred again for an indefinite term. This was reported to IA REGNUM Novosti by the chief of the press-service of the Murmansk Branch of the Federal Unitary Enterprise Rosmorport Oleg Starodubtsev.
He told that the reconstruction is a part of the Federal Target Programme on Developing Transport Infrastructure of the Russian Federation, but in 2010 no budgetary funds to this objective have been assigned. That is why the objective was postponed and thorough repair of the moorage and marine passenger terminal is carried out instead. “But pier specifications do not allow to berth vessels used for cruising. This is one of the reasons making the reconstruction of the marine passenger terminal necessary,” added Starodubtsev.
Earlier IA REGNUM Novosti communicated that projects on passenger terminal reconstruction provide for extending the main pier, reconstruction and extension of the building of the terminal, and arrangement of the quay bank protection. These measures are to improve servicing systems for passengers and modern sea-going passenger ships. The condition of the main passenger pier prevents from adequate servicing passengers employing services of the motorship Klavdia Elanskaya which runs the socially important route Murmansk-Ostrovnoy-Murmansk and does not allow to berth here other cargo-and-passenger ships.
