OAO Novaya ERA Will Produce and Deliver Electric Board Equipment for the First-Ever Floating Nuclear Power Plant

Saint-Petersburg production plant OAO Novaya ERA signed a contract for preparing of working design documents, production and delivery of electric board equipment, and participation in erection and adjustment supervision works at the object Project 20870 Floating Power Plant.

By order of OAO Rosenergoatom Concern, the first floating power plant unit was laid down on April 15, 2007, at the building slip of OAO PO Sevmash (Severodvinsk). In 2009 its construction was transferred to OAO Baltiysky Zavod in Saint-Petersburg.

According to Sales Deputy General Director of OAO Novaya ERA Mars Zinnatovich Gazizov, the company took part in the design study of FNPP construction. Besides the company has vast experience in design and delivery of electric systems for nuclear-powered icebreakers and other off-shore facilities. The company could win the tender thanks to special care to safety and quality of equipment delivered to important objects of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and enterprises of the atomic industry as well as specialization in development of low- and medim-voltage marine equipment. “Today OAO Novaya ERA possesses all necessary resources and experience to carry out project works at a high engineering performance level,” pointed out Mars Zinnatovich Gazizov.

According to the contract conditions, OAO Novaya ERA is to develop and produce main distributing gears, propulsion generator neutral earthing boards, 400 W main distribution boards equipped with continuous power supply unit, emergency generator boards, backup diesel-generator boards, reduced voltage boards, reactor installation consumer power boards equipped with continuous power supply unit, and other equipment.

The floating power plant consists of a nonpropelled flush-deck vessel with two icebreaker-class reactor plants КЛТ-40Ц. The overall length is 144 m, beam 30 m, full load weight 21,500 tons. The power unit is to be integrated into a floating nuclear heat and power plant and ensures output of 60 MW of electricity and 50 Gcal/h of heat energy for thermal clamping water heating at rated KW. The floating power unit is to be operated in the area of the High North and Far East with winter outside temperature down to -40°C (humidity – up to 85%). The estimated operating life is 38 years.

In total, OAO Rosenergoatom Concern plans to construct 7 floating nuclear power plants by 2020. Only 3 years are necessary for serial production of a FNPP. The term of pilot project implementation is 4 years.
