On November 13, in Viluchinsk (Kamchatka Territory), there took place public hearings on the assessment of environmental impact of the offshore nuclear heat and power plant (ONHPP).
ONHPP is a low capacity nuclear heat and power plant on the basis of an offshore generating unit equipped with КЛТ-40С reactor plants; the heat and power plant to be manufactured by applying Russian construction technologies for nuclear powered vessels; the heat and power plant is to supply energy to the regions of High North, Far East and other remote areas of Russia.
In February 2009, the contract for construction of the offshore generating unit was signed with Baltiysky zavod, OJSC; the unit testing is to begin in the end of 2011, and the handover for commissioning is to take place in the end of 2012.
The building contractor of ONHPP in Viluchinsk is Energoatom department of offshore nuclear heat and power plants under construction. The design project leader and supplier of the reactor plant is Afrikantov OKBM, OJSC; the supplier of the turbo-generator installation is Kaluzhskiy turbinniy zavod, OJSC. The design project leader of the power-generating unit is Iceberg Central Design Bureau, and the design project leader of the plant is Atomenergo, CJSC.
