The Shipping Register of Ukraine Will Join the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways

July 16, 2010

The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine initiates listing of the Shipping Register of Ukraine into the list of classification societies recommended by UNECE for the purpose of its acknowledgment in accordance with the Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways. At the session of committee of experts representing treaty countries, a relevant petition was examined.

The committee examined documents relative to Register’s measures to control ships carrying dangerous goods by Ukrainian inland waterways. Experts calculated number and type of vessels classified for such carriage. They also discussed a procedure of preparation and revisal of the Register rules and issues regarding inspector training and support of operation of the service quality system.

The experts’ opinion stipulates that the classification society can become a member of the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways. The final opinion on joining is to be adopted after the Registry submits additional documents.
