”The memorandum will provide the basis for technological cooperation and exchange of information between research institutions” – said Hyakyamies. According to him, ”Development of energy resources in the Arctic region in the coming years will require the building of more than a dozen icebreakers and about 300 cargo ships.”
Khristenko, in turn, stressed that ”the shipbuilding industry is a traditional part of the Finnish-Russian cooperation, which today is under reconstruction.”
He recalled the National Strategy for the development of shipbuilding, developed in Russia, one element of which is ”access to strategic partners who can create new, innovative face of Russian shipbuilding and co-create products with which you can enter the world market.”
The Russian Minister expressed confidence that the bilateral trade volume will reach 20 billion dollars in 2011.
