At the meeting of RS General Director Nikolay Reshetov and HELMEPA General Director Dimitris Mitsatsos held in Athens, RS activities aimed at sea pollution control and environmental conservation were highly estimated. RS was invited to join HELMEPA.
Nikolay Reshetov noted that this advance imposed supplementary responsibility on, as well as constituted acknowledgement of high proficiency and great experience of the RS staff.
He emphasized: “Ocean belongs to the mankind and understanding responsibility to future generations is essential. Success is achievable only by joining efforts. RS affords an opportunity to discuss safe navigation and environment protection issues in the open. To this end international seminars are held with the major task to consolidate efforts of all members of the international maritime community and all this is to enhance safety standards”.
Commitment to high standards of maritime safety means inter alia special attention to environmental issues. RS class assigned to a ship confirms its compliance with accepted environmental standards. By a ship owner’s request, RS examines compliance with supplementary more strict standards elaborated to promote construction of sea and atmospheric pollution free vessels and adoption by shipbuilders and ship owners of added measures against environmental pollution.
RMRS actively collaborates with Greek ship owners. In 2009, the Greek Maritime Administration delegated it powers to survey vessels under the flag of Greece.
