Sevmash Will Go Over to Modular Ship Construction Method

As communicated by the plant’s press-service, Severodvinsk defense shipyard Sevmash will go over to advanced modular ship construction method, and “the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade approved the plan for prospective development of the enterprise”.

The modular ship construction method is used extensively in the world’s practice. According to specialists, implementation of plans for technical upgrade and modernization of Sevmash production will ensure creation of a Severodvinsk modern shipbuilding complex and successful construction both within frameworks of defense orders and state-of-the-art competitive technologies.

“Billions of rubles were exploited in the course of the enterprise’s development, including own profit,” noticed General Director of Sevmash Nikolay Kalistratov.

The key activity of the shipyard consists in constructing nuclear-powered submarines for the Navy. More than 25 thousand of people work at this major employer of Severodvinsk. From its formation in 1939, 162 submarines were constructed here, of that 128 were nuclear-powered ones. In recent years, construction of offshore rigs for O&G industry have been mastered by the enterprise.
