Shipyard Oka to launch first new project dry-cargo carrier for Volga Shipping

 Shipyard Oka (Navashino, the Nizhny Novgorod region) is to launch cargo river ship “Kapitan Ruzmankin”, built for Russian shipping company Volga Shipping, on November 23, 2010. It is the first dry-cargo carrier of the series of 10 vessels, constructed upon project RSD-44.

Shipbuilding company Shipyard Oka, founded in 1907 is located on river Oka, in the town of Navashino in the south-west of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The shipyard is a major manufacturer of multi-purpose river and marine vessels of various types. The shipyard’s facilities allow building vessels, which meet all the international requirements.

Volga Shipping is one of the largest Russian shipping companies. They celebrated their 165th anniversary in 2008. The company carries cargoes and passengers down rivers and lakes of Russia. Thus, during the 2009 shipping season 4.5 million tonnes of cargo and 359,000 passengers were carried by Volga Shipping. The company’s fleet consists of 250 cargo and passenger motor ships. Volga Shipping is a member of transport holding Universal Cargo Logistics Holding that also manages the St. Petersburg, Tuapse and Taganrog commercial seaports, North-West Shipping Company and a number of other shipping and shipbuilding enterprises.
