On May 7, the F4 Leading Multipurpose Nuclear Submarine “Severodvinsk” to Be Moved out of the Boathouse

March 18, 2010

On the eve of the Victory Day, an outstanding event is to take place at Sevmash. On May 7, the F4 leading multipurpose nuclear submarine “Severodvinsk” is to be moved out of the boathouse.

Currently, the cable pulling and electric installation works come to an end. According to Deputy Military Equipment Production Director S. Marichev, this is a leading vessel, so a lot of technically complex issues arise in the course of nuclear ship production. The NPS “Severodvinsk” was designed by the Marine Engineering Design Bureau “Malakhit” (Saint-Petersburg).

This is a multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine with revolutionary architectural features and application of new armament opportunities, said Vladimir Pyalov, chief designer of Malakhit in one of his interviews. Partly, specialists attribute duration of the ship construction time to these particularities. Besides, the circumstance of no small importance is that the F4 NPS was constructed in the rough period for the country: the leading multipurpose submarine was laid down in 1993.

The construction of the “Severodvinsk” was liven in the end of the last year. Since then the works have been performed on a double-shift basis.

After moving out of the boathouse, the “Severodvinsk” is to pass dock and sea trials. The trials will be run by the crew commanded by post captain Sergey Mityaev.

At the same time the second missile carrier of this series laid down at Sevmash in 2009 – NPS “Kazan” – will continue at the building slips.
