The atomic icebreaker ”50 Years of Victory” is preparing to go to the Baltic.

The world’s largest nuclear icebreaker ”50 Years of Victory” is preparing to leave Murmansk towards the Baltic States to work in the Gulf.

As Deputy Director General of FSUE ”Rosatomflot” corporation ”Rosatom”, Andrey Smirnov said to RIA Novosti, training is goes on normally. The output of the nuclear icebreaker out of home port Murmansk is scheduled for January 24-25. After some sea trials, the icebreaker will be fully ready for the transition and will head to the Baltic. Atomic icebreaker ”50 Years of Victory” is the largest in the world. Originally atomic icebreaker was called the ”Ural” and built at the Baltic Shipyard. Icebreaker was laid in October 4, 1989 and launched in December 29, 1993. According to the contract icebreaker should stay for 100 days in 2012 in the Baltic Sea.

As soon as the ”50 Years of Victory” icebreaker completes a series of summer cruises to the North Pole and replaces icebreaker ”Yamal”, ”Yamal” will return to Murmansk and in early autumn will stand in the dock for refueling of the reactors and repair.
