Sergey Darkin does not agree with the widely-spread information about wracking the large-scale shipbuilding programme in the Primorsky Kray. He stated his view on this matter at the press-conference in Vladivostok on November, 16.
According to the Governor, “There has never been any commercial shipbuilding in the Primorsky Kray, only naval shipbuilding. Today we are redeveloping the sector. Our facilities are certainly out-of-date. Besides, we have never had an experience of such construction. The ships of this class – LNG carriers and tankers of the dead weight up to 180,000 tonnes – used to be built in Kerch only”.
“The currently available shipyards have to be re-equipped completely, while new, advanced projects Daewoo Shipbuilding and Yantai Raffles are now under state expertise review. At the same time there has already been orders for ships, what bespeaks the market demand for such projects”, S. Darkin said.
“Meanwhile, we have met with some difficulties in the course of the project realization. Thus, we face time shifting as there are too many unknowns in the equation to be solved. Overcoming all the external difficulties strongly depends on foreign companies’ management, on their ability to steer the economy”, the Governor added.
However, the Yantai company had to change the location of the shipyard because of disagreement with the military. Nevertheless, the shipyard will be constructed for rigging up, particularly for the Russian oil and gas industry. The Governor also mentioned the advances in the ongoing projects. Thus, the third lower base of the rigs are being constructed in the port Vostochny, while new workshops involved in bridge construction have been opened at Nakhodka shipyard.
