It is not excluded that in the near future Norway will open for the development the shelf divided from Russia. Minister of Petroleum and Energy of Norway Ula Borte SVEs intends to make such a proposal to the government in the spring of 2013 as was said today by the organizers of the international conference ”Arctic Frontiers” held in Norway.
As follows from the co-signed the treaty in 2010, oil and gas reserves, which will be developed near the border of divided territories to be used by both states.
According to the Minister the findings made as a result of seismic surveys around the island of Jan Mayen as well as areas in the eastern Barents Sea can change the view on the amount of hydrocarbons mining by Norwegian companies in the offshore. He also noted that today we should thoroughly evaluate the potential environmental ”impact of industrial activities in the remaining, until recently, have not yet studied the Barents Sea areas before the start of exploration.”
By the way companies that have filed application will allow conducting seismic surveys in some parts of the territory.
