There was the launching of the tenth ship, completing a series of universal dry cargo project RSD 44, built for the Volga Shipping. According to the press-service of Volga Shipping Company the launch took place in January, 18 at the Oka Shipyard (Navashino, Nizhny Novgorod region). The ship was named “Captain Kanatov.” The report says that by the time eight ships in this series were put into operation, 6 of which had worked on inland waterways. In the navigation 2011 these vessels carried more than 200 thousand tons of cargo. The ninth ship “Captain Shumilov” passes the test in the mooring area Oka shipyard.
Dry cargo ships RSD 44 are designed to carry bulk cargo, general cargo. Gradually, they will replace the previous series of ships «Volga-Don “. The new vessels surpass their predecessors in production efficiency, environmental compatibility, economic efficiency and comfort. Carrying capacity of vessels project RSD 44 is 5.5 thousand tons, 500 tons more than the cargo ship “Volga-Don.” At the same overall height of new ships is two times lower and is only 8 meters. This allows them to pass under the bridges of St. Petersburg and Rostov, without raise, reducing the time of cargo delivery. Ships are automated and equipped with modern screw-steering columns, which give high agility and good handling. The first series of dry-cargo ship RSD 44 was founded in February 24, 2010 and launched in November, 24 2010. All ships of series named in honor of the captains of Volga Shipping Company, who died in the Battle of Stalingrad.
SUMMARY: The project of building a series of ships is carried out by leasing program of state support for domestic shipbuilding: co-financing of state United Shipbuilding Corporation (85%) and future owner of the vessel – Volga Shipping Company (15%). Volga Shipping Company is one of the largest shipping companies in Russia, founded in 1843. The Company carries out cargo and passenger transportation on rivers and lakes of the country. The company’s fleet – 250 cargo and passenger ships. As a result of navigation in 2011 there were transported 6.7 million tons of cargo and 368,000 passengers. Volga Shipping Company is the part of holding company VBTH, the majority shareholder of which is an international transport group Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, consolidating a number of Russian shipping, stevedoring, shipbuilding, railway and logistics companies.
