TRANSAS launched trials of GLONASS monitoring and correction stations on Russian inland waterways

TRANSAS has completed the launch of the trial monitoring and correction stations of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) and GPS on the inland waterways in the regions of Omsk, Khanty-Mansysk and Pechory. TRANSAS informs that these actions are aimed at implementing integrated technology to use GLONASS system on the inland waterways of the Russian Federation.
The monitoring and correction stations created in the areas of Ob-Irtysh basin and the city of Pechory will enable to considerably increase the accuracy of vessel positioning on the inland waterways, to reduce technical and commercial losses as the vessels will set down less often, to reduce the waste of steaming time and the time of unplanned idleness due to restricted visibility, to increase operation efficiency by faster passing of narrow spaces, in restricted visibility without ship-traffic control system, to improve navigational and hydrographic support of transport communications in the region including inshore waters, fairway channels, waterway meeting points, canals and port access ways.
At the same time, local differential sub-systems, that have been created, can help to achieve other targets of social and economic significance, in particular to provide high accuracy of reference (to the local coordinate and height system) during construction works and geological surveys, to assist in carrying out cadastral works and overland navigation of vehicles, to ensure control of transported valuable and hazardous cargos.
The monitoring and correction station by TRANSAS has been designed to operate as part of costal stations, which correct signals from GNSS GLONASS/GPS and control GLONASS/GPS integrity and quality of differential navigation field.
