From August 5 till 12, the World Congress of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is held in Mexico.
There, a decision on updating the ITF’s flag of convenience (FOC) policy was adopted by representatives of trade unions of seafarers and dock workers from all over the world. It will be known as “Mexico City Policy”.
The new policy is to ensure cooperation between union trades and states in order to enhance seafarers’ social protection.
The Mexico City Policy will continue strengthening good relations between seafarers and dock workers and their unions as well as will search for new ways and opportunities to protect their interests,” Steve Cotton, ITF maritime coordinator, said.
