Pella Plant to build heavy vessels in Leningrad Region

January 09, 2011

In a two-year time Pella Plant is going to increase its stock of tugboat orders 5 times and to start building heavy vessels.

OAO “Pella” Leningradsky shipbuilding plant” (the main shareholder is Gerbert Tsaturov, General Director of the Plant) has built up the stock of orders for the near future. In 2011 the Plant will build 11 tugboats – the same quantity as in 2010. In 2012 14 vessels are expected.

Analysts have estimated Pella’s orders received for the next two years to be worth 200 million euros, which is 5.2 times higher then in 2009. The major customers are going to be Norisky Nikel, Sovkomflot and the Russian Navy.

By 2013 Pella is going to complete a new plant in the settlement of Saperny, which is worth 1.5 million roubles. The plant is expected to build 8 tugboats per year and to construct heavy vessels.

The strongest advantage of the new plant is its location. Existing shipbuilding facilities in the town of Otradnoye are situated up the Ivanovsky rapids of the Neva River, which makes it impossible for Pella to take orders for construction of heavy vessels.

In the next six months the Russian State Duma is expected to approve a new law to support shipping and shipbuilding sectors, which is aimed to optimize taxation at both ship construction and ship maintenance stages, says Nadezhda Malysheva, development director of Portnews. The law will stimulate new orders, in particular for river vessels. Besides, the law allows tax relieves for the shipyards located in special shipbuilding zones. In order for Pella to come under the new law the Plant should declare its intention to expand the production facilities, Nadezhda Malysheva reckons.
